Nelis du Plessis

Nelis started playing Drums at age 15. After initially being self-taught, at age 17 he enrolled at COPA and attained N6 certificate in Performance. Subsequently, between 2008-2014, Nelis went on to lecture at COPA in Pretoria, obtaining OBE certification and working as a registered assessor over that time, in addition to his professional performance commitments.

Nelis has an extensive Drumming profile, which include DVD, Radio, TV & Live performances with the likes of original SA bands, The Centrefolds, Ardé, Liezel Marshall Band, Parts & Fiction, along with various Jazz and Blues outfits – Deep Blue C, Elrine Louise and SAMA award winning Gospel group, The Plain Truth. He has also featured in numerous Barnyard Theatre Productions: Hollywood Rocks, Glory Days 99 Hits & Thank You For The Music, to name a few.

Nelis’ philosophy on playing Drums extends equally to his take on teaching the instrument; “I am a professional drummer and teacher who specializes in Rock, Jazz & Pop music and Live performance. My instrument is my voice and an extension of my personality. I am really passionate about what I do and always perform with confidence”.

Keith Marisheni

Keith Marisheni is an extremely versatile and seasoned session drummer, who has in the last decade shared the stage with legendary South African bands and artists such as: Johnny Clegg, Freshlyground, Loyiso Bala, Gang of Instrumentals, Elvis Blue, Gloria Bosman, Timothy Moloi, Electric Pops Orchestra, Daniel Baron, Grammy Award winning flautist – Wouter Kellerman, and many more.

Some of the highlights of his career are being a member of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) 2011 house band, performing at The Cape Town International Jazz Festival, countless performances and tours with SA Idols’ runner up Lloyd Cele, and being a member of Multi Award winning South African Iconic band, MANGO GROOVE.

Keith is also a familiar face as a session drummer in the corporate band’s scene, working with bands such as Groove Masters, Jazzmatix, Sticky Triggers, Swing City, Blu Bamboo, Dolce Vita, Jonathan Birin, Garth Taylor, Jazz Assassins, Brass Cartel and many more bands.

Having begun his musical Journey at his home church, in Johannesburg, where he was born, bred, and is still based, Keith’s passion for drumming was cultivated at Drumlab SA under the mentorship of Neill Ettridge, where he now also holds position of Drums Tutor.

Jason Dick

Jason Dick is a young and aspiring session drummer and teacher. He has been playing drums for 8 years and performs across the country with various artists and for his band The Xpierreience. Jason is passionate about inspiring people on their journey of learning drums, and instills an essential balance of fun and discipline in his teaching.

Shaun James

Although Shaun originates from a film and video production background, with many accolades to his name, his drumming credentials are equally laudable, as his student base at Fourways and Rivonia will testify to.

As a medal winner of the Trinity Grade 8 Drums Exam in 2011, Shaun has gone on to even greater achievements and brings this considerable skill set and personality to all the student sessions taking place at Drumlab.

Shaun is adept at many styles of Music and equally skilled in technique and reading, with fifteen years playing experience and five years teaching experience. He also has a great affinity with students of all ages and experience levels, from beginner to advanced – and a real passion to see folks succeed!

Po-Chung Chen

I am 27 years old and I have been playing drums for 9 years now. I have been taking drum lessons since the first day I started playing drums, I have a Higher Diploma in music and drums, I continued my studies in drumming without receiving higher qualifications as I didn’t I needed it, and so far I haven’t. I went to Neill Ettridge for lessons for 4 years and performed tracks up to and beyond Grade 8 Trinity.

I have been teaching drums from beginner to advanced levels of all ages for over 5 years now, I enjoy teaching the knowledge I have of the instrument and passing it onto students who are eager to learn and express themselves on the instrument, I like to watch people grow with what they love.

I have been a professional and touring drummer for over 5 years now, performing in all venues and all kinds of shows, from small venues to big stadium or festival shows with various acts, whether big or small. To name a few bands I have played drums for; Beatenberg, Gangs of Ballet, Shortstraw, Desmond And the Tutu’s, December Streets, Kahn Morbee (from Parlotones), Lira, Rob May, Adventure Man and a bunch of other well-known artists.

I am proudly endorsed by Vater Drumsticks, Sabian Cymbals and Marshall Music. I love music and I love performing all kinds of genres to grow myself as a musician and to always find new experiences to grow as a musician.
